Last July 9, Yumday Founder and CEO, Lia Ballentine, teamed up with Tradition Kitchens and CreativeMornings Atlanta to bring you the budding Instagram dessert craze, Halo-Halo.

Halo-Halo translates to "mix-mix" in Tagalog and is one of the Philippines' traditional desserts. Sweet, cool, and layered with vibrant and eye-catching ingredients that will surely pique your interest.

Many lovely participants from around the globe joined us as they gave their take on Halo-Halo using available ingredients in their homes.

The usual components of halo-halo are shaved ice with layers and layers of delicious ingredients like fruits, sweet beans, palm fruit seeds, and coconut jelly. For extra texture, we add in shredded coconut and sprinkle crispy cereal for a delightful crunch. Finally, we top it off with ice cream and pour in evaporated milk for a mind-blowing dessert experience.

There are various versions of halo-halo, with some people using crushed ice instead of shaved ice, adding garbanzos or chickpeas and other fruits, and topping it with different kinds of ice cream or Leche flan.

Whatever the ingredients, you’ll always end up with a sweet and colorful dessert you'd want to binge on from time to time.

Watch the video below and see Lia do a step-by-step halo-halo preparation and hear what our lovely guests have to say about this unique dessert.
