About kubo
Founded by Rumples Estacio-Miranda and Katrina Pesigan.
"kubo is a Brooklyn-based home decor and accessories brand that features handcrafted goods made by Filipino artisans. kubo prides itself in partnering with artisan and indigenous groups in the Philippines, as well as Filipino makers around the world, underscoring the traditional techniques by which each piece is made. As a result, each product is ingrained with a sense of place, time, culture and purpose.
kubo is rooted in 3 pillars: made by hand, made by Filipinos, made with purpose. Made by hand: Traditional ways of making anchor our products - a sense of time, place and the maker’s own eye, are transmitted through every item, into one’s own home. This has led us to work with family run businesses who have been in the industry for more than 20 years, developing crafts from materials that are abundant in their own provinces, such as rattan basketry in Bicol, and abaca textile weaving in Bukidnon.
Made by Filipinos: We partner with artisan and indigenous groups in the Philippines, as well as Filipino makers around the world. Providing a platform to showcase their work and nurturing Filipino talent is at the heart of what we do. Made with purpose: Environmental, ethical, economic and philanthropic values anchor our supply chain, like prompts to live more consciously throughout the home. Our goal is to highlight the Filipino maker communities, our rich culture, history and art; and to help sustain their craft through this platform."
