September 5th is National Cheese Pizza Day. I usually get all kinds of toppings on my pizza, but I do appreciate a simple cheese pizza on occasion. However, there was a time when I was making a lot of cheese pizzas—on my grill! Does anyone else grill their pizzas?
We used to have a Kamado Joe, which meant we could get our charcoal fired up to some really high temps. And that meant we could achieve that prime pizza cooking range (500+ degrees)! So one summer, we made pizzas. All. The. Time. It took a while to figure out the basics—like how to get our dough right, how to make sure it could slide off the peel an onto the grill in one piece, etc. But after a while, we got the hang of it, and we discovered how fast we could make and serve pizzas hot off our grill.
We’ve moved around a bit since those grilled pizza days, so we don’t have the old Kamado Joe anymore. But I think it’s about time to get back into making more pizzas at home. So if you make pizzas at home, I’d love your recipe recommendations!
Happy National Cheese Pizza Day!
